MYKONOS

ATHENS

SANTORINI
During the spring semester of my junior year, I studied abroad in Athens, Greece at the American College of Greece! While searching for programs I wanted a school that offered hospitality classes. There were a few other colleges in Europe that offered such classes but I decided on Greece because it has been on my bucket list for years. It was kind of nerve-wracking signing up to live in another country for four whole months, but I knew that it was a once in a lifetime opportunity that I would never forget!
At the American College of Greece, I took four classes, Digital Image, Olympic Games and Mega Sports Events, Hospitality Operations, and Tourism Planning and Development. My favorite classes were my two hospitality classes. I had the same professor for both and she was amazing! The only bad thing was I was the only American in those classes and I felt a little out of place. Towards the end of the semester though I got to know the other Greek students through class discussions and field trips to hotels.
While I was going to class and learning a lot, I was also traveling a lot too! While I was in Greece I traveled to eight different countries and three different Greek Islands. I loved traveling all over and learning about new cultures and seeing all the stunning architecture. Also eating all the interesting and very delicious foods from different countries!
To learn more about my travels from my study abroad, check out some of my blog posts. I was a photoblogger for International Studies Abroad and I represented my host country Athens, Greece by writing three blog posts throughout the semester! I took pictures of all of my adventures and came up with thoughtful, interesting posts!! To read the ones I wrote, click the links below!!
Bahamas

NASSAU

UNIVERSITY OF THE BAHAMAS

HARBOUR
ISLAND
During my freshman year, some classmates and I took a study abroad trip to the Bahamas during our spring break to learn more about hospitality and events in a vacation destination! We were only there a week but fit in a lot of fun as well as educational activities while we were there.
Some of the fun activities that we did were swimming with dolphins, flying to another island, Harbour Island, and going to the pink sands beach, and staying at an all-inclusive resort the last two nights. The educational activities were still really fun too! We got to tour the Atlantis casino along with a Hilton hotel, the One and Only Ocean Club and our resort we stayed at the last few nights. Also, we had a meeting at the US Embassy where some ambassadors told us about their jobs and what they do at the Embassy. We visited the University of the Bahamas and ate at their student-run restaurant, similar to ISU's Joan Bice Tearoom. Additionally, we cleaned up a beach and then had a presentation from the B.R.E.E.F, Bahamas Reef Environmental Educational Foundation. They talked about the issues happening in the Bahamas reef and what we can do to help.
I think the trip was amazing because we had a lot of fun but we also learned so much about the hospitality industry! I would have to say my favorite part of the whole trip was touring The One and Only Ocean Club. It was such a beautiful, high-end resort with exceptional service. Also, I thought it was so cool because many movies, including James Bond: Casino Royale, were filmed there!
